My latest commentary published in Kantipur today. Genomic research using a 190-year-old specimen from London’s Natural History Museum (collected by Brian Hodgson in Kathmandu back in 1836) has settled a two-century old mystery. The pangolins in Nepal's mid hills are not Chinese pangolins-they are officially recognized as the native Himalayan Pangolin (Manis aurita). In this piece, I look beyond the laboratory to address the policy implications for Nepal and the need of further research on the presence of Chinese Pangolin in Nepal.
