๐ Digital infrastructure in the Nordics must be resilient against physical threats and quantum computing. That is why GlobalConnect is part of the Danish Qgrid project, an initiative pioneering network security for future challenges. For the first time, the project combines two cutting-edge technologies, QKD and DAS, into a single solution to shield fiber cables from both physical and digital threats. A solution that is now to be tested on one of GlobalConnectโs fiber routes. QKD (Quantum Key Distribution): Secures data transmission against future quantum computers, ensuring that sensitive data (such as healthcare records) cannot be decrypted by unauthorized parties. DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing): Transforms the fiber cable itself into a sensitive sensor that, via AI, can distinguish between excavators, traffic, or targeted physical attacks in real-time. In short: QKD protects the content, while DAS protects the physical connection. The project is backed by a consortium consisting of DFM - Danmarks Nationale Metrologiinstitut, DTU Physics, Celare Quantum Communications, Fluves, Terma Group, Energinet og GlobalConnect. Qgrid is an excellent example of how research, the public sector, and private industry can collaborate to secure our digital infrastructure. We look forward to seeing the impact of the collaboration over the next three years!
