A while back, we had to relocate cables due to a highway expansion in Denmark. Instead of treating removed fiber enclosures as waste, we take a different approach. All “dead cables” and their enclosures are collected by one of our contractors and returned to us for refurbishment and re-use – given they meet our quality and type requirements. Meet Ronni Kristensen, field technician in our Delivery team in B2B Denmark, who demonstrates how this works in practice. The process is simple: a bit of cleaning, sometimes replacing a seal, and the enclosure is ready for a new life in our network. We re-used approximately 25 fiber enclosures last year in Denmark, and each time we do so, we save around €300 (depending on the accessories installed). Just as importantly, we reduce material use, waste, and transportation – making a tangible difference for the environment. Small actions, scaled across the network, create real impact.
