Wild Tomorrow: a life-changing moment that led to a wildlife corridor πΏπ₯ π± Stepping into the wild of the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in South Africa, John Steward, co-founder of Wild Tomorrow, felt a new calling. (Strangely, years before, the very same Park inspired our own team members β this is where the history of the Global Rewilding Alliance begins.) π₯ With his wife Wendy Hapgood, they chose to dedicate themselves to Wild Tomorrow, an organization driven to create a wilder, thriving future for people and wildlife. Now, they are creating a vital wildlife corridor and engaging local communities through Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve. Some key results are: Rewilding 4933 acres of habitat for wildlife π Legally protecting Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve π Protecting 1252 species including 50 mammals, 432 bird species, 162 wild flower species, 42 butterfly and moth species π¦ Reintroducing previously missing Native species π¦ Clearing over 2248.75 acres of invasive plant species πͺ Employing 10 community rangers to safeguard wildlife π¦ Employing 15 local women as Green Mambas to remove invasive species and manage plants π΄ Building two community daycare centers ποΈ Offering ongoing support for a local charity supporting orphaned children π This 5,000-acre protected area along the Msinene River, once at risk of development, now serves as a critical wildlife corridor, reconnecting fragmented habitats. Wild Tomorrowβs vision is to drop fences between the two neighboring protected areas. π Their team follows the key rewilding principles to revive the landscape - a whole system rewilding approach. Including people. πΊοΈ Wild Tomorrow also offers Conservation Experience Trips, a two-week immersive program at their reserve. Participants get to experience on-the-ground rewilding up close. Wild Tomorrow is ensuring a future where wildlife and wild spaces can thrive. #ChooseOurFuture
