Today, the #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour reminds us that while progress has been made, the challenge is far from over. According to the latest joint report from the International Labour Organization and UNICEF, “Child Labour: Global estimates 2024, trends and the road forward,” nearly 138 million children worldwide remain engaged in child labour, including 54 million in hazardous work that threatens their health, safety and development. Although child labour has declined significantly since 2000, the world has missed its goal of eliminating child labour by 2025. Behind every statistic is a child whose right to education, safety and a healthy future is at risk. At Global Standard, protecting human rights is a fundamental part of the GOTS framework. GOTS-certified entities must comply with robust social criteria based on internationally recognised conventions. Child labour is strictly prohibited under the GOTS Human Rights and Social Criteria. GOTS specifically aligns with the ILO Minimum Age Convention (C138) and Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention (C182), helping to protect children from exploitation and respect the rights of young workers. Eradicating child labour requires collective action from governments, businesses, civil society and consumers alike. Through credible certification, transparency and due diligence, we can help create textile supply chains that respect the rights and dignity of every person involved. #HumanRights #ResponsibleBusiness #TextileIndustry #SupplyChain
