In Angola, this transformation is already underway. ย With a massive surplus of hydroelectric powerโdriven by dams like Laรบca (2,070 MW)โAngola has the perfect infrastructure to produce clean fuel of the future. It's a unique geopolitical opportunity to diversify the local economy and strengthen European energy security. The H2VBD (Barra do Dande Terminal) megaproject aims to install 600 MW of electrolysis to export 1,200 tonnes of green ammonia. But the project faced the sector's biggest global obstacle: ensuring economic viability (offtake) and setting competitive electricity prices. H2-diplo built bridges. The H2-diplo Office German-Angolan Hydrogen Office facilitated structured negotiations between project developers and national stakeholders, bringing critical benchmarking data on electricity prices from comparable H2 projects across the region. Sonangol E.P., drawing on decades of energy expertise, emerged as a key driver in pushing the process forward for the H2VBD project, developed in partnership with GAUFF GmbH & Co. Engineering KG and Conjuncta GmbH. ๐ค The outcome was decisive: an electricity price agreement has been reached, giving H2VBD a competitive edge and setting a new short-term benchmark for green ammonia globally. Beyond the deal itself, Angolan universities have already begun establishing dedicated research hubs on the energy transition โ signalling that this project is reshaping more than the energy mix. Vandrรฉ Spellmeier, Head of H2-diplo Office Angolan Having overcome the price-negotiation barrier, the focus now shifts to financial structuring and the training of local human talent. H2-diplo remains committed to monitoring every step until the first drop of green ammonia is exported. ๐ข ย #TransitionTuesday #GreenHydrogen #Hydrogen #Decarbonisation #Diplomacy #Cooperation #H2diplo #Angola #EnergyTransition #GreenAmmonia
