The global effort to reinvent how we treat tuberculosis is starting to deliver real results. A recent Nature Medicine article highlights growing momentum in TB research, citing 29 drug candidates now in clinical development and a wave of innovation focused on shorter, safer, and more effective cures. With the world’s largest portfolio of new TB drug candidates, we are proud to be at the forefront of this field. Investments in developing improved TB treatments have already delivered life-saving impact. New regimens for drug-resistant TB have reduced treatment from 18 months or longer to just 6 months – while dramatically improving outcomes. And what’s coming next could be even more transformative, with the potential for treatments measured in weeks, or less. TB Alliance’s 1x1 vision is at the center of our work. By combining new, more potent drugs in clinical development with innovative technologies like long-acting injectables, we believe it’s possible to achieve single-month treatment for active TB and single-day treatment for latent TB. But the job is far from done. TB remains the world’s leading infectious disease killer, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable communities. Realizing this next generation of breakthroughs will require sustained political will and continued investment. We are deeply grateful to our donors and partners whose support makes this work possible. Together, we have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to accelerate progress and bring better cures to everyone who needs them.
