The upcoming transition to 6G represents a fundamental architectural shift toward intelligent, distributed, and autonomous network environments designed to support AI-driven systems and real-time industrial automation. Moving beyond traditional human-centric connectivity, 6G will position mobile networks as foundational digital infrastructure by deeply embedding compute and native AI processing across the entire network fabric. To justify massive infrastructure and spectrum investmentsโespecially as smartphone traffic growth slowsโmobile network operators (MNOs) must abandon commoditized connectivity models. Instead, they need to embrace "post-connectivity" value creation, leveraging programmability, open network APIs, and integrated enterprise solutions like edge compute and predictive maintenance. Commercial 6G deployment is forecasted to begin in late 2029, with global connections reaching 4.1 million in its first year and accelerating rapidly into 2030. Early market leadership will be heavily concentrated across nine pioneering countries, led sequentially by China, the US, Canada, Japan, and the UK. Structurally, 6G will not replace existing infrastructure overnight but will instead integrate into a highly complex, heterogeneous environment where 4G and 5G networks remain operational for years. The ultimate commercial success of the generation depends on technical enablers like Terahertz (THz) spectrum for terabit-level throughput , Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) , and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) that unify satellite and aerial coverage into a single framework.
