After 25+ years in the data center business, Benjamin Von Seeger is one of AI's biggest believers. He predicts it will help us solve the greatest challenges on our plant – and pursue new ventures beyond it. But it will never replace the insight that comes from first-hand expertise, he says. If you're preparing to close a funding round for a new data center, for example, AI can help you sharpen your pitch and clean up your models. It can't, however, tell you what it's really like to sit across the table from a prospective investor with several billion dollars on the line. For that, Benjamin says, you need to talk to someone who has "been in the room" before. It's why he thinks "GLG" should be a verb in any serious decision maker's vocabulary – and why, in his industry, peers ask each other a standard question when discussing their biggest projects: "Have you GLG'ed this?"
