The Jim Clark Trust A NEW CONCEPT - THE 1967 BELGIAN GP Clark in chassis 49/R2 during Friday practice for the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix, on 16th June 1967. Both Lotus cars had small bib spoilers for this first practice, as they were anticipating reaching 190 mph and there was a suspicion that the nose might suffer from aerodynamic lift; interestingly, Brabham was also trying similar deflectors. The bib spoilers were, to a degree, effective - they kept the front end locked down, but made the back end unstable, as there was no counter balance! Consequently, both Clark and Hill had them removed for Saturday practice. © Auto Motor Sport Archive
