Coastal Engineer specialized in Aeolian Processes, Beaches, and Coastal Dunes

In terms of weather, yesterday was a perfect day to measure aeolian sand transport on the beach. Dry and sunny conditions in combination with longshore winds peaking above 16 m/s made sure we had our hands full. Together with the help of my MSc students and collegues, we measured aeolian sand transport with two types of vertical sand traps, aeolian intensity, wind conditions, surface moisture content, vegetation characteristics, and topography in the dune-in-front-of-a-dike in Oosteroever, Belgium. Close monitoring of the morphological development and vegetation dynamics of this area will provide new insights in these 'building with nature' solutions for the improvement of coastal protection against sea level rise and future flooding events. Take a look through some images to see how beautiful it was. #Departementmobiliteitenopenbarewerken #MDK afdeling Kust #WaterbouwkundigeLaboratorium #KULeuven #UGent #INBO #Expertiseinbeweging #Oosteroever #VLIZ Bart Roest Pieter Rauwoens
