Last month, Glencore’s Britannia Refined Metals (BRM) welcomed teams from the UK Government’s Department for Business and Trade and UK Export Finance for a tour of our lead production facilities and copper-bearing waste recycling sampling plant.   BRM is one of the largest primary lead producers in Europe, producing primary lead and lead alloys from crude lead shipped from Glencore’s Mount Isa operations in Australia. The site processes around 160,000 tonnes of lead per annum, supporting industries across the UK and Europe - including battery manufacturing and subsea power cable production.   At the heart of the visit was the important role that critical minerals such as lead can play in supporting the UK’s industrial strategy, strengthening domestic supply chains and advancing the clean energy transition.   We look forward to continuing the conversation about how mining, processing, refining and recycling can help build a more resilient and circular economy, and support UK manufacturing.
