💪🏃♂️ A two-time GCU graduate and Five-time Tough Mudder completionist, Gerard Moynagh is clearly no stranger to a challenge. 🏢 As Head of Operations for Scotland with architectural consultancy MBH Design Studio Ltd., he finds plenty of crossover between his day-job and the disciplines of endurance competitions. 🎓 Gerry first graduated with his BEng (Hons) in 2000, then returned sixteen years later for his MSc in International Project Management, keen to take his career in a new direction. 💬 “GCU gave me the opportunity to undertake a placement year with BAE Systems. That then led to sponsorship through my final year, and a job offer on graduation, which was a significant step in starting my career and something that may not have happened without that opportunity or the support of GCU. 💬 “The MSc gave me a structured understanding of project management and helped bridge the gap back into the construction industry. It gave me the confidence and credibility to step back into project delivery.” 🚀 Now, Gerry works as Head of Operations for Scotland at MBH, after joining as a project manager in 2022. 💬 “That progression came from being willing to take responsibility, learn quickly and do what was needed to deliver for both the business and our clients. My background helped: Engineering gave me technical understanding; finance strengthened my commercial awareness and early exposure to construction shaped my approach.” 🏔️ The role comes with its fair share of responsibilities and challenges. Gerry finds himself drawing from the experience of his personal life. 💬 “As a ski instructor, the focus was to not overload people with information, give them the basics and let them build confidence, then develop the detail. I take a similar approach in work: Provide clear direction, support people, and allow them to develop their own way of delivering. 💬 “I enjoy helping others to get through the obstacles at competitions, while I rely on them to help me get through the running especially on the longer or more inclined events. That mindset carries into work; delivery is always a team effort and without it we wouldn’t get any job over the finish line.” 💙
