In Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf (Saxony, Germany), a single-bay gymnasium has been built for the DPFA-Regenbogen School, which opened after just 12 months of construction. The approximately 1,000-square-meter sports hall expands the school’s infrastructure to serve over 350 students from elementary, middle, and high school. Architecturally, the gym impresses with its clear, functional layout featuring a single-bay hall and an adjacent gymnastics room. The spaces are flexible and designed to accommodate a wide range of sports. In addition to traditional indoor sports, bouldering is also possible. Furthermore, the gym is designed to serve as a venue for school activities. The building envelope was consistently designed with transparency, daylight utilization, and a minimalist material aesthetic in mind. Large-format LINIT©EcoGlass profiled architectural glass windows create visual openness and seamlessly connect the interior and exterior spaces. At the same time, they meet the highest standards for safety, sound insulation, and energy efficiency—key criteria in school and sports facility construction. DPFA Schulen gGmbH, a private educational institution and part of the DPFA Akademiegruppe with approximately 50 schools and educational institutions in Saxony, funded a large portion of the construction costs from its own resources. The total project volume amounted to approximately 2.7 million euros, of which about 40 percent was subsidized by the Free State of Saxony.
