Kurt Gödel (1906 - 1978) was an Austria-Hungarian born mathematician and logician. He is most well-known for his two incompleteness theorems, which showed among other things that mathematics is necessarily incomplete, meaning that there are true mathematical statements that are impossible to prove or disprove, even in principle. Gödel also became good friends with Einstein and discovered solutions to general relativity that allowed time travel into the past. Gödel was born on this day in 1906.
