An important discussion, but the case of Gilgit-Baltistan highlights a critical gap between climate forecasts and local realities. Despite hosting over 13,000 glaciers and thousands of glacial lakes, the region still suffers from limited weather stations, inadequate agricultural databases, and weak local climate information systems. Farmers are increasingly facing erratic precipitation, changing cropping seasons, and recurring GLOF risks, yet policy responses remain largely national in scope. Translating climate forecasts into action requires investing in mountain-specific data, localized early warning systems, and community-based adaptation in Gilgit-Baltistan. Without strengthening the evidence base in high-mountain regions, climate risks will continue to translate into economic and livelihood losses.
