It’s not often that a Super Bowl halftime show becomes a commentary on energy justice, but this year, it did. Bad Bunny’s choice to perform “El Apagón” was a direct nod to Puerto Rico’s ongoing struggles with grid reliability. The imagery of climbing power poles while transformers “failed” in the background wasn’t subtle. It was a cultural reminder that energy systems—and their failures—shape everyday life far beyond technical reports or regulatory filings. For me, it reinforced a key point: energy transition isn’t only about deploying cleaner technologies. It’s about who benefits, who is left vulnerable, and how resilient our infrastructures truly are. Markets and policies often talk about megawatts and targets, but communities experience the system through outages, tariffs, and trust. #EnergyTransition #EnergyJustice #GridResilience #superbowl Photographer: Ishika Samant/Getty Images
