During the Winter Olympics an American athlete, after her race, was asked about the biggest cultural shock she'd experienced. Her answer? "DIE! DIE! DIE!" screamed by thousands of Italian fans at the top of their lungs every time a competitor pushed down the slope! Except it was "DAI! DAI! DAI!" — which in Italian means "Come on! Go! Go!" Same sound. Wildly different meaning. That's localisation in a nutshell — Translate the words. But more importantly, understand the culture. As marketers managing multiple markets, we can't just copy-paste what worked in one country and expect the same results elsewhere. A campaign, a tagline, even a single word can mean something completely different on the other side of a border. So don’t dai on that hill ;)
