Joint Facilitation of Maritime Traffic (FAL) & Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) Workshop A four-day workshop organized to ensure Efficient and Transparent Port Clearance is being held in Sogakope, in the Volta Region. The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Anti Corruption Network (MACN), IMANI Ghana, and members of the National Facilitation (FAL) Committee. The FAL committee which had its representation from the Ghana Maritime Authority, Shipowners and Agents Association of Ghana (SOAAG), the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana National Chamber Of Commerce and Industry, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Shippers Authority, Ghana Navy, Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, Cybersecurity Authority, Marine Police, Ghana Health Service, Ghana link, and Customs Devision ensures that international shipping is as fast, paperless, and stress-free as possible, balancing smart security without drowning in paperwork. Delivering the welcome address on behalf of the Director General of the GMA, the Chairperson of the National FAL Committee, Ms Janet Houghman, commended the collective commitment of the stakeholders to improve maritime trade facilitation, eliminate operational bottlenecks, and promote transparency across Ghana’s maritime ecosystem. Ms Houghman, who is also the Director of the Maritime Services Division at the GMA, underscored the workshop’s theme and expressed confidence that participants would align the work plans of the FAL Committee and Maritime Anti-corruption Network (MACN), develop coordinated anti‑corruption measures, and support Ghana’s compliance with international maritime obligations. The President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), Stephen Adjokatcher, who chaired the workshop, highlighted the importance of aligning work plans to avoid a duplication of efforts and maximize collective impact. He called on participants to engage actively and focus on practical, achievable outcomes that will strengthen Ghana's position as a leading maritime and logistics hub in the region.
