The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) is taking a bold step toward a safer and more formalized maritime economy. Under the new “resetting agenda,” the Authority is moving beyond traditional hubs like Tema and Takoradi to establish a physical presence in high-risk riverine communities across the country. A key pillar of this strategy is the introduction of the “Safety Guard” concept where the Authority is seeking to recruit and train local community members to serve as wardens on the country’s lakes, ensuring safety protocols are followed while creating sustainable employment for the youth. The governing board of the GMA during a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Ada East District Assembly, emphasized that community-centered enforcement is the only way forward in reducing waterborne accidents. With nearly 90 percent of pleasure boats in Ada currently unregistered, the GMA is also seeking partnership with the Assembly with a focus on vessel licensing to verify seaworthiness and ensure every craft meets national safety standards Read more about this initiative here 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/dfU8vaps #GMA #InlandWaterways #SafeWaterTravels #CommunityDevelopment #AdaEast
