GMA Celebrates Day of the Seafarer 2026 The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) celebrated the 2026 Day of the Seafarer on Thursday, June, 25 2026, at its Tema Branch, recognizing the invaluable contributions of seafarers to the global maritime industry. In a special symbolic gesture, members of GMA Management stepped away from their desks to serve on the frontlines, directly assisting seafarers with certification to demonstrate the Authority’s deep appreciation for those who keep global trade moving. The Director General, Dr Kamal-Deen Ali (Naval Capt. Rtd), Director General, emphasized that the global economy thrives on the back of the maritime sector. Recalling Ghana’s rich maritime legacy rooted in Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s Black Star Line, the DG announced the upcoming rollout of the National Seafarer Development Policy which he said will provide a framework to further develop and upscale seafaring as a job placement for young people. The Deputy Director General, Mubarick Masawudu, for his part also paid tribute to seafarers as the “invisible force” transporting and transforming global trade. He reaffirmed GMA’s commitment to seafarer welfare through digital transformation, mental health support, and enhanced career guidance.
