The Ghana Maritime Authority joins the global community to celebrate the Day of the Seafarer. This year’s theme, “Carrying World Trade, Carrying the Risks,” cuts straight to the heart of what it means to work at sea. Seafarers are the invisible force behind our daily lives. Every item we wear, the food we eat and the fuel that powers our communities exists because someone, somewhere, sailed across an ocean to deliver it. They carry over 90 percent of global trade on their shoulders, but also carry the heavy weight of the risks that come with it. Months of isolation from family, unpredictable and harsh weather, navigating high-stakes safety challenges, and the mental toll of the open ocean. Yet, day after day, they sail on. They keep global supply chains breathing and Ghana’s economy anchored to the world. To our incredible Ghanaian seafarers and every member of the global crew: we see you. We see the sacrifices behind the statistics. Your professionalism and courage keep our ports moving and our industries running. You don't just move cargo, you propel human progress. At the Ghana Maritime Authority, our commitment goes beyond words. We stand firmly with you to ensure your safety, wellbeing, fair treatment, and dignity are never compromised. No one should have to brave those risks alone. A supported, respected and safe seafarer is the true foundation of a thriving maritime industry. Today, we honor your resilience. Today, we say a profound thank you. Happy Day of the Seafarer. Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks. Deserving our ultimate respect and unwavering support. #DayOfTheSeafarer #DotS2026 #CarryingWorldTrade #GhanaMaritimeAuthority #SeafarersAreKeyWorkers #MaritimeGhana #BlueEconomy
