Have you ever done a double-take in an airport and thought: “Wait… did I just see that?” That happened to me on my recent trip from Western Australia back to Germany, during a short layover in Singapore. Walking through Changi Airport towards my next gate late at night, I suddenly noticed an empty wheelchair slowly driving towards me. No one pushing it. No one sitting in it. Just moving along on its own. For a moment, my brain tried to make sense of it. Then I gave up, took a short video, and later found out what it was. Changi Airport is currently trialling autonomous wheelchairs that travellers will be able to summon via an app when they need help getting around the terminal. I’ve always had an interest in technology. It reminded me a bit of autonomous equipment in mining, designed to improve safety and efficiency both above and below ground. Now I’m curious: Would you be comfortable using an app to get help moving through an airport? Or would you still prefer the human touch? #LifeInBerlin #ExpatLife
