France’s high-voltage grid is taking another step toward reducing its environmental footprint. GE Vernova and RTE Réseau de Transport d'Electricité have signed an agreement for the supply of gas-insulated substations using GE Vernova’s SF₆-free g³ technology. SF₆, or sulfur hexafluoride, has long been used as an insulating gas in high-voltage electrical equipment. Our g³ technology is designed to provide an alternative to SF₆ while maintaining the performance and compact footprint needed for high-voltage substations. The agreement covers voltage levels from 72.5 kV to 420 kV across France’s electricity networks and supports RTE’s efforts to modernize its transmission infrastructure while reducing environmental impact. This work builds on GE Vernova’s long-standing industrial presence in France, with research and development carried out in Villeurbanne and development and manufacturing performed at our Aix-les-Bains site.
