Celebrating Women's History Month: NINE PARTS OF DESIRE (Fielding Stage, 2006-2007 season) Set in Iraq, London, and NYC between 1991 and 2007, "Nine Parts of Desire" is written in poetic verse and told in monologue form from the perspectives of 9 Iraqi women played by 3 actors. With the 2001 US invasion of Iraq as its center, the play sharply confronts common stereotypes and perceptions as the characters lay bare a breadth of intimate personal stories told directly to the audience. "I liken it to songwriting – I listened deeply to what each woman said, what she wanted to say but couldn’t, and what she never knew how to say. Then I wrote her song." — Heather Raffo WOMEN ARTISTS Playwright: Heather Raffo Director: Karen Coe Miller Actors: Judith Delgado (Mullaya/Huda/Umm Ghada), Mercedes Herrero (Layal/The Doctor/Nanna), Bailey Varness (Amal/Iraqi Girl/The American) Dramaturg: Marge Betley Designers: Yuanting Zhao (Costume Designer), Kimberly L. Lawler (Backdrop Painter)
