💡 Dialogue Event with Federal Minister Reem Alabali Radovan at IDOS “Cooperation is more powerful than fragmentation.” - Reem Alabali Radovan Today, we were honoured to welcome Federal Minister Reem Alabali Radovan from Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)) at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). The visit focused on a dialogue event with representatives of Bonn-based development policy institutions, UN organisations, as well as ministries, academia and research institutions, including colleagues from IDOS, on the BMZ's reform plan ‘Shaping the future together globally’. The plan was published in January 2026 and outlines the reorientation of German development policy. In her introductory speech, Reem Alabali Radovan emphasised the importance of trust as a key resource in a multipolar and fragmented world and highlighted the role of IDOS as a valuable partner and source of expertise. In a bilateral dialogue, IDOS Director Anna-Katharina Hornidge and the minister discussed, among others, (1) financial constraints and budget cuts for the sector; (2) shrinking civic spaces worldwide with regard to freedom of speech or civil society engagement; (3) the need for synergies in addressing interconnected global challenges such as poverty reduction, and inequality alongside the protection of global public goods such as climate, biodiversity, and health; and touched upon (4) the task of all development actors to better communicate the effectiveness of development policy to the public. After the dialogue, the minister answered questions from the audience. | #DisruptionAndReform #DevelopmentPolicy #SustainableFutures Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) DEval-Institute EADI European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes European Think Tanks Group (ETTG) DEG Bonn Research Alliance (BORA) JRF - Johannes-Rau-Forschungsgemeinschaft 📸 © IDOS / Benjamin Westhoff
