Open House: From bitumen to wine — an unexpected but very fitting connection. On June 5, German Centre Shanghai hosted a relaxed open networking evening together with two highly valued tenants of our community: VEDAG and Barbarossa Cantina. The evening brought together two very different niche markets: sustainable building and renovation materials on the one hand, and premium wines, spirits, and lifestyle products on the other. What connects them is a shared focus on quality, trust, craftsmanship, and long-term market development. VEDAG is a valued tenant at German Centre Shanghai and represents exactly the kind of specialized, high-quality European company that makes our community so strong. With Barbarossa Cantina, another valued tenant, a very special wine cellar was added to the picture — bringing a unique lifestyle, tasting, and networking element to the evening. The keynote by Volker Hofer offered valuable insights into how specialized European products can find their place in the Chinese market, especially when they are not designed for the mainstream. His message was clear: premium niche markets in China require patience, credibility, consistency, and a deep understanding of the local market. Guests enjoyed an inspiring and relaxed evening of market insights, product presentations, wine and spirits tasting, finger food, and networking in an international Sino-German business environment. A warm thank you to Volker Hofer, VEDAG China, Barbarossa Cantina, and all guests who joined us for this special evening at the German Centre Shanghai.
