GeoServer 3.0 is here. šŸš€ A year ago the community made a bet. Spring 5 was reaching end of security support, the move to a modern Java platform could not wait, and none of the work it required was the kind that wins a feature vote. So instead of letting it pile up, the community funded it. The target was 550,000 €. Camptocamp, GeoCat and GeoSolutions each put in 50,000 € and provided delivery capacity. The remaining came from sponsors, organisations and individual donors during a commitment phase, with funds collected only once the goal was reached. In May 2025 the campaign passed its target. The work began fully funded. GeoServer 3.0 is the moment it pays out. šŸŽÆ The platform is back on a current, supported foundation: āœ… JDK 17 and Spring 7 āœ… Modern raster processing with ImageN āœ… Reinforced security āœ… Rebuilt administration interface and refreshed documentation It ships together with GeoTools and GeoWebCache, and for most deployments the upgrade from 2.28.x is straightforward. This is what open source looks like when its users decide to invest in it. šŸ™ Thank you to every organisation that pledged, every individual who donated, and everyone who tested, reviewed and contributed code. And thank you to the consortium teams at Camptocamp, GeoCat and GeoSolutions who carried it from a funding target to a shipped release. GeoServer 3 is the foundation for everything the project does next. It is here because the community built it together. šŸ“– Blog: https://wp.me/pfwItg-3yf šŸ”— Release: https://lnkd.in/dJuEUsq9 #GeoServer #OpenSource #Geospatial #GIS #SDI #GeoNode #OSGeo #JavaDevelopment #SpatialData #MapStore #FOSS4G
