As we approach #WorldDrowningPreventionDay (25 July), we're shining a light on one of the most overlooked causes of childhood death in West Bengal, India. A statewide survey by The George Institute, supported by Child in Need Institute (CINI), found that an estimated 9,000 people overall die from drowning in West Bengal every year, of which 2500 are children under 5. Many incidents occur close to home while caregivers are occupied with work and household responsibilities. These deaths are preventable – if we work together. This year, we are calling to #UniteToTurnTheTide: https://bit.ly/4vTHOuR #DrowningPrevention #WDPD2026 #WDPD26 Bloomberg Philanthropies, Mobile Creches
