Active outdoor play is not just recreation, it is essential for children’s physical, cognitive and social development. Yet play and children’s connection with nature remain largely overlooked in education systems around the world. From forest kindergartens to Indigenous approaches that connect learning with the natural environment, growing evidence shows that nature-based education can support learning, well-being, resilience and inclusion.
