Countries are strengthening their commitment to inclusive education. Since 2000, the share of countries with inclusive education laws has increased from 1% to 24%. At the same time, 84% of countries now define inclusive education in policy or legislation. These legal frameworks are a critical step toward ensuring that children with disabilities and other marginalized learners can learn alongside their peers in mainstream education systems.
