Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at The University of Manchester
📣NEW OPENING👩🔬🧑🔬 – We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a collaborative project between our team (www.crisenzalab.net), Dr. Cristina Trujillo’s group at the University of Manchester, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Building on our recent work (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2026, 148, 11925–11938), this project will explore the reductive activation of amides – ubiquitous feedstocks, commodity chemicals, and key structural motifs in biomolecules, materials, and pharmaceuticals – to harness them as versatile building blocks for C–C bond-forming reactions and establish new sustainable catalytic methodologies for the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant scaffolds. This PhD provides a stimulating and interdisciplinary training environment, encompassing organic synthesis, electrochemistry and photocatalysis, alongside the use of computational tools to support reaction design, optimisation, and mechanistic understanding.🔌💻💡We welcome applications from candidates worldwide with a strong interest in these research areas. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about both experimental and computational chemistry and eager to develop expertise across these complementary disciplines. Prior experience in synthetic organic chemistry is desirable. For informal enquiries and further details about the project, please contact me at [email protected], with a CV and a cover letter.
