🔵Our team recently carried out essential works on the high-pressure Cork-Dublin pipeline, after corrosion was identified following a routine inspection.🔵 The Cork-Dublin pipeline is an essential part of our country’s national gas network, supplying gas to thousands of homes and businesses in much of the Eastern part of the country. The issue was identified in a routine maintenance operation referred to as ‘pipeline pigging’. This is where specialised equipment called a Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) is used to clean and inspect high-pressure (transmission) pipelines so that they can be kept in safe working order. Our construction partner Murphy was responsible for ground works, while a specialist team from National Gas Services in the UK installed a permanent clamp over the corroded section to restore it to full operational integrity. This is a method used to avoid having to cut the pipeline and importantly, avoids interruption to supply. Our partners at IPEC Inspection Ltd. were responsible for ground supervision. As this is a key pipeline in our national network, it involved a lot of planning to ensure the safe and successful execution of works. Well done to everyone involved. #MovingIrelandsEnergy
