India Needs a Comprehensive National AI Strategy for Competitive Advantage Beyond AI Data Centres and Frontier LLMs !! By Ganesan LS - Strategic Advisor – Business & IT | Independent Director Executive Summary Artificial Intelligence has rapidly evolved from being a technology trend into one of the defining strategic capabilities of the 21st century. AI is now influencing economic growth, national security, geopolitical influence, defence readiness, productivity, healthcare, education, scientific research, and digital sovereignty. India has announced ambitious initiatives through the IndiaAI Mission, Digital India, BHASHINI, and various state-led programmes. The private sector has also made substantial investments in AI platforms, cloud infrastructure, enterprise AI solutions, and AI talent development. However, India's long-term AI leadership cannot be achieved simply by investing in larger AI data centres or attempting to compete directly with global frontier Large Language Models (LLMs) requiring billions of dollars in capital expenditure. The more important challenge is strategic coordination. India requires a comprehensive National AI Strategy anchored by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), bringing together government ministries, academia, startups, research institutions, defence organizations, and industry leaders into one coordinated national framework. The objective should not merely be to build AI. The objective should be to build India's long-term competitive advantage. #IndiaAI #AIStrategy #ArtificialIntelligence #DigitalIndia #NationalCompetitiveness #CyberSecurity #DefenceTechnology #GenerativeAI #AgenticAI #EnterpriseAI #ResponsibleAI #Innovation #BusinessTransformation #FutureOfWork #NASSCOM #IndiaAIMission #MakeInIndia #TechnologyLeadership #SkillArbitrage Chhavi Jindal Ramanuj Mukherjee SAURABH RAJ
