🔬 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐅𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 We were proud to take the stage at the Advanced Fermentation Technology (AFT) 2026 Congress, held this month at the University of Lille, where researchers, innovators, and industry leaders gathered to explore the new frontiers of industrial biotechnology. Our R&D Fermentation Manager, Tambi Kar, delivered an oral presentation on "Industrial deployment of recycled-carbon fermentation: A translational framework for low-emission bioprocesses," co-authored with Pieter Van der Weeën. 🌱 The talk explored how recycled-carbon fermentation can help move industry away from refined sugar-based feedstocks toward circular, recycled carbon sources, valorising side streams like whey-derived substrates into sustainable fermentation inputs. Key takeaways we shared with the AFT community: ✅ Regulatory compliance must be built in from the design phase, not bolted on later. ✅ Recycled-carbon fermentation directly supports European sustainability policy and Scope 3 emission reduction goals. ✅ Measurable carbon footprint reductions strengthen sustainability reporting and green finance eligibility. ✅ The real challenge isn't proving feasibility, it's scaling: managing substrate variability, fermentation stability, downstream compatibility, and contamination risk at industrial scale. At Galactic, we've screened multiple low-carbon raw materials for fermentation, evaluating them on carbon concentration, accessibility, fermentation kinetics, and compatibility with post-treatment processes.
