πŸ›Œ How does a digital therapy for insomnia actually work? In a new paper published in Behaviour Research and Therapy, we applied network intervention analysis to the somnovia RCT data (Specht et al., 2024). The RCT demonstrated the effectiveness of somnovia. Here, we looked into the underlying mechanisms: πŸ”Ž Instead of comparing total scores, we asked which individual symptoms (across insomnia, depression, and anxiety) are most directly affected by somnovia, and how those changes spread through the symptom network over the following months. This study shows that network intervention analysis can help us understand which symptoms a treatment affects first and how these changes may lead to further improvements. In the current paper, we could show that initially, somnovia works by πŸ‘‰ reducing mental and physical arousal, such as racing thoughts, worry, tension, or feeling overly alert. πŸ‘‰ Because these processes are linked to many other difficulties, improving them may also help reduce emotional distress and everyday impairment, not just sleep problems. Together with our collaboration partners Robert GΓΆder and Dieter Riemann, we show the underlying mechanism of how somnovia delivers its clinical benefit. #DigitalHealth #DTx #Insomnia #MentalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #ClinicalResearch #BehavioralScience #Somnovia #GAIA #DiGA
