A friendly debate for Women’s History Month: #TeamToni or #TeamTavia? I and my good friend, the Honorable Nikylan Knapper, J.D. —the first Black and Black woman mayor of Maplewood, Missouri—both love to read. Toni Morrison is my favorite woman writer (and maybe favorite writer period). Octavia Butler is Nik’s favorite. Both writers were extraordinary, with a Nobel Prize, a MacArthur Fellowship, a Pulitzer Prize, Hugo Awards, an American Book Award, and Nebula Awards between them. . . . but if you have to choose . . . are you #TeamToni or #TeamTavia?
