I crossed 14k hours on Upwork this week. They say it takes 10,000 hours to master something, so I think I'm on my way lol If I was starting on the platform today, here's 3 things I would do 1) Build a fucking awesome portfolio. I think that's the most important part of being a freelancer in general. You can't expect people to invest their money on you if you don't have a trajectory of awesome work. This applies to programming but also any industry on the platform. 2) Set aside ~$500 a month for connects. Connects are the tokens you use on the platform to bid for jobs. I think about them as my advertisement budget. UpWork already has people interested in my services. Connects allow me to reach these people, so I think of them as an investment. 3) Be very specific about the jobs you're applying to. Don't apply blindly. Remember, your odds for landing a job are 100x better if you can prove that you've built something similar. BONUS 4) DON'T FUCKING USE AI TO APPLY TO JOBS. Clients hate this and it's slower than applying yourself. Clients have told me multiple times they like my proposals because they're short and crisp. Plus, they only take me like 30 seconds and zero tokens. If you can't apply without AI what trust does a client have that you can do the job? === gabe was here === so, what's stopping you from starting on UpWork today? #ai #upwork #freelancing #software #startups
