On Friday evening I was at the TEID - Danimarka'da Yaşan Türk Ekspatlar Derneği networking event, and I left in a much better mood than I arrived in. Moving to Denmark fairly recently has been great in a lot of ways, but you do spend a fair bit of time wondering how things are supposed to work here, professionally and otherwise. Sitting in a room full of Turkish people who've been doing exactly that for years took the edge off in a way I wasn't quite expecting. The speakers were excellent. Senior leaders from Arla Foods, DSV - Global Transport and Logistics, Novo Nordisk and Carlsberg Group talked through their own paths in Denmark, and they were refreshingly honest about it. The hard parts, the lucky parts, the things they got wrong. The bigger surprise though was the people I ended up meeting in between. So many genuinely interesting expats with completely different backgrounds, and almost everyone generous with their time and advice. I came home with new contacts, a couple of coffee plans already in the calendar, and the rather nice feeling that there is actually a circle here for me to grow into. Attended the event together with Can Deger and Emre A. A big thank you to Büşra Akın and the entire TEID team for putting this together. Already looking forward to the next one.
