80% of mobile network power consumption originates in the RAN, of which RUs account for 50%. Cutting down RU power demand can significantly move the needle towards addressing the pressing need to improve network #EnergyEfficiency and sustainability overall. Fortunately, the #OpenRAN community is already on the case and the introduction of 5G provides excellent opportunities to realize power savings.
