The most hidden environmental challenge for Europe's seas is the toxic remnants of sea-dumped munitions. At this month's North Sea workshop, the right people came together to make real progress on the clearance and safe disposal of marine munitions. As part of the European Union funded Clearance Activities for Marine Munitions through Efficient Remediation Approaches (CAMMera) consortium, we hosted the CAMMera North Sea workshop – creating space for honest, practical discussion on what needs to change to tackle this missing piece of the puzzle. More than 60 delegates from government, military, academia, industry, and non-governmental organisations joined the conversation from across Europe. Different perspectives with shared goals: safer seas to protect people, ecosystems and marine life. The focus was practical and shared: 🔍Improving how marine munitions in the North Sea are identified, cleared and safely disposed 🤝 Clarifying the key challenges, responsibilities and knowledge gaps across sectors 🐟Understanding the impacts of dumped munitions on the marine environment and the blue economy The insights, conclusions and recommendations from the workshop will directly inform the next stage of CAMMera’s remediation solution design. By hosting this workshop, we’re helping turn a complex, long‑standing challenge into collective action. Together, through CAMMera, we’re working towards safer, cleaner and more sustainable seas. #CAMMera #MarineSafety #NorthSea #BlueEconomy #EnvironmentalProtection #Collaboration
