We’re introducing novelty for prismatic Li Ion Cells where many don’t look and we’re doing it with evidence: In prismatic cells, the cell envelope of the electrode stack is often treated as “just packaging.” We see it differently. Over the last few weeks, we have shared a short, data-backed video series showing how nonwoven battery cell envelopes can be a credible alternative to standard PP film and how we validate that credibility with testing in cells. Together with ZSW, prismatic PHEV2 cells are assembled under controlled, highly automated conditions to ensure reproducible results. The nonwoven envelope is fully integrated into the cell stack and evaluated as part of the system. The objective is clear: Cell Level testing is key to provide evidence that replacing standard PP film with a nonwoven envelope does not introduce risk, but enables additional functionality during assembly and operation.
