Last month's World Health Day put a spotlight on the role of science, collaboration, and accountability in improving global health. Now, the conversation continues – and so does the need for action on maternal health. In our latest Women in Science blog, read the interview with Dr Ann-Beth Moller whose work over two decades highlights a critical truth: maternal health does not exist in isolation. Despite global commitments, the world remains off track to meet SDG target 3.1. Preventable maternal deaths persist, reflecting deep inequities in access, quality of care, and accountability. Dr Møller explains what it will take to change this: ·      Strong primary healthcare and midwifery-led services ·      Reliable referral and emergency systems ·      High-quality data and accountability ·      A focus on equity and respectful maternity care Her perspective underscores that maternal health is shaped by broader systems—education, nutrition, gender equality, and social protection. As the momentum from World Health Day carries forward, her message is clear: progress depends on political will, sustained investment, and accountability grounded in human rights.
