The Multiple Meanings of Portraiture in the Renaissance (Part II)   The final episode of the portraiture short video series presented by “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Meet Mona Lisa & Portraying the Renaissance” is finally here! Art historian Dr. Isabelle Frank will continue to guide us through the stylistic clash between two major Renaissance art movements and explore how Leonardo da Vinci changed the history of portraiture by merging their techniques.   This episode focuses on the fascinating contrast between the Italian and Flemish arts styles: Italian artists favored the idealized "pure profile" inspired by ancient Rome, while the Flemish school pioneered the "three-quarter view," incorporating scenic backgrounds and capturing extreme realism, even down to wrinkles and bloodshot eyes.   The four pages of the Codex Atlanticus featured in this exhibition perfectly witness how Leonardo da Vinci masterfully blended these two traditions. Using the "Sfumato" technique instead of harsh lines, he struck a flawless balance between reality and idealism. Let’s join Dr. Frank to discover how Leonardo shattered traditional boundaries of emotional expression, bringing his subjects to life. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Hong Kong Heritage Museum
