When 75-year-old Bob Duncan began experiencing facial paralysis, he never expected it would lead to a diagnosis of a rare, aggressive form of squamous cell carcinoma. After seeking advanced care at Fred Hutch - Proton Therapy, Duncan enrolled in a clinical trial combining proton therapy with a type of immunotherapy drug called a checkpoint inhibitor. “I am amazed at how quickly cancer treatment is evolving,” Duncan said. “Options used to be limited, but now there are so many. It shows we’re successful in treating cancer. Ask about clinical trials because that’s where progress is made.”
