Tenacious advocate for residents and all business sectors to be well served by the Charleston County Council.

OPEN LETTER TO THE BERKELEY-CHARLESTON-DORCHESTER (BCD), SC BUSINESS COMMUNITY o   https://lnkd.in/evcP64Sr Charleston County, SC is at the cusp of a decision that will decide if A Better Charleston County can be achieved with a 25-year spending program allocated to roads, transit, preservation and bikeways. The 100 mile long South Carolina county on the Atlantic Ocean is a hurricane target, the City of Charleston is the poster child for tidal street flooding. Annually the public service communication programs prime all in earshot to prepare to head out for safer places with the admonishments to know your zone and get your go gab ready. Evacuation is the best option to secure one’s life from rafter high storm surge where half the residences are in the mud flats. Lowcountry lifestyle that turns on a working electronic device, a full tank of gas in the car, a pioneering spirit or fear. There is no urban core but there are clusters of businesses scattered by as-of-right development, with an historical concentration in the City of Charleston, the industrial manufacturing in North Charleston, anchored to the network of Charleston Harbor’s gantry cranes the identifiable marks of the logistical spine for the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester (BCD) region and South Carolina economy. Liberty Mutual Insurance published research that carries a direct message for every BCD big or small business leader operating in this coastal region. The report—Building Urban Flood Resilience With Ecosystem Services directly applicable to the BCD region. Chief Community Investments and Sustainability Officer, Francis Hyatt says: Plan for 2050 water.   This viewpoint corroborates and aligns to what the environmental community recommends. Both communities share a common viewpoint and are on the same starting page. If you have business in BCD you already encountered the water and its companion – congestion. This letter that seeks to explain to the BCD business community and anyone else what is needed to have A Better Charleston County by 2050 despite the water. o   https://lnkd.in/evcP64Sr No test, but please read it for substance, and take the best action. This can and must be done. There is a related website for A Better Charleston County. o   https://lnkd.in/emZgvFud Sincerely, Fred Palm June 15, 2026
