Together with our project partner Schaeffler and associated partner ABO Energy, we started the collaboration by aligning on the first work packages, project milestones and the implementation timeline. Within H2-SMORE, a K1000 G2 #PEM electrolysis stack supplied by Schaeffler will be integrated into the stack test infrastructure at Hydrogen Lab Leuna. The test bench enables dynamic testing of PEM stacks up to 2 MW electrical power. A major focus of the project is the investigation of stack and system behavior under operating profiles derived from #offshore and onshore wind power generation. By combining megawatt-scale stack testing with realistic renewable load profiles, the project aims to generate application-relevant operational data for future offshore hydrogen production systems and to further establish reliable and reproducible large-scale testing methodologies for water electrolysis technologies. The project is coordinated by Fraunhofer IWES and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
