🔋 Recycling of materials for the use in #batteries: Recovering lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, and graphite   Under the coordination of IDENER.AI and with project partners from Spain, Poland, Portugal, Germany, Italy, UK and Ukraine we kicked off a major EU research project on battery materials from european primary and secondary sources.   ♻️ The goal: Reducing Europe's dependence on raw material imports by developing chemical processes that can recover crucial materials for the battery production from - mining waste - industrial sludge - so-called “black mass” from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries - mineral-rich geothermal water   🪧 The project tests 4 technological routes in pilot pants in Spain, Poland and the United Kongdom. At Fraunhofer ISE, a team led by Daniel Winter and Joachim Koschikowski contributes with expertise in the field of direct lithium extraction from geothermal brines to the project.   More information: https://lnkd.in/eb6qwQVJ
