📢 Proud to share our latest work published on the Journal of Robotic Surgery entitled “Percutaneous Thermal Ablation versus Robot-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy for Localized Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Stratified by Tumor Complexity” 🔍 In this systematic review and meta-analysis including 17 comparative studies and 2,516 patients, we evaluated the impact of tumor complexity on outcomes following percutaneous thermal ablation (PTA) and robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) for localized renal cell carcinoma. 📌 Key findings: ▪️ RAPN was associated with superior local tumor control and lower recurrence rates. ▪️ This advantage persisted even in anatomically complex renal masses. ▪️ No significant differences were observed in cancer-specific survival, overall survival, metastatic progression, major complications, or renal functional outcomes. ▪️ PTA remains a valuable option for carefully selected patients who are poor surgical candidates, although it requires closer surveillance due to the higher risk of local recurrence. These findings contribute to the ongoing discussion regarding personalized treatment selection for localized RCC and highlight the importance of balancing oncological efficacy, patient fitness, and procedural invasiveness within a shared decision-making framework 👨⚕️👥👩⚕️ Thank you to all co-authors for this collaborative effort Federico Zorzi Antonio Amodeo Istituto Oncologico Veneto IOV - IRCCS Stefano Moretto Alexandre Ingels Alessandro Crestani Luca Di Gianfrancesco Gianluca Giannarini Giovanni Liguori Frédéric Panthier Savio Domenico Pandolfo Roberto Contieri Sisto Perdonà Alchiede Simonato Nicola Pavan https://lnkd.in/dA2nHwtA
