Upgrading FPGAs has traditionally been a matter of making minor code adjustments and resolving some timing differences. Times have changed, as Rachael Peterson from Concurrent Technologies explains in the latest issue of the FPGA Horizons Journal.   We’ve moved to a legacy era, where the gap between older FPGAs and modern devices is simply too wide. Toolchains have evolved, for example, and integration complexity has increased. Expectations have also changed.
